my friend lauren newman turns 27 today so we dressed up & went to dinner at mico (aka mi cocina) & then caught the 10 showing of satc2. i thought it was cute but not necessarily a must see unless your a fan of the show. as usus there were: cute clothes, good looking people, & funny one liners but my fav part is the focus on friendships. im so blessed to have so many lifelong friendships & im thankful to God for the rich blessings of their love & support.

my friend megan came to me with a vision of a help-portrait event in bonton with BridgeBuilders. throught this event last saturday {and the help of some awesome photographers & volunteers}, we were able to work with over 60 families and shoot over 200 people for their christmas pictures. can't wait to do it again next year bigger & better!

It is only through adiding in his love through the word that makes me clean and obedience to his commandments. I want his love. I want his joy. I want his promises. He wants to give them to us. I need to dwell, wait, pause, stay, and continue in his love and love for one another. This is a good place to be.

friday: amazon garage sale set up. folding clothes, organizing piles, chickfila with anna, walmart run #1

saturday: amazon garage sale, wheelin & dealing, told i should open my own store, more chickfila, community fellowship in bonton, garage sale again, hung out with mary, took shower, skipped church, walmart run #2, baked with carol (monkey bread & brownines), walmart run #3, movie, bed

sunday: church, made with roommate: poppyseed chicken, squash casserole, & cream cornbread, cowboys win, airport run for parents, k-life small group, laid on couch for 2 hours, watched SNL, bed.

this week: dinner with amelia, amazon team meeting, fundraising dinner with sunday school class, & throw baby shower for co-worker, & several lunch dates with good friends.

has anyone ever seen that show "Amazing Race"? well, i had never seen it but the young singles at my church had their own version this weekend.

first clue: on the back of a puzzle

this was one of the challenges.

it sounded so fun and creative so i got 3 team members together (matt, amanda, and carol) to play. there were 12 teams, each representing a county. we were Jamaica. unfort, we couldn't find any Jamaican clothes so we just went as "tourist in Jamaica." let's just say if you were anywhere on saturday between prestonwood, the convention center in downtown, and 35, you may have seen young singles sprinting/driving erratically around the town, that was us & i apologize on our behalf.

we got 3rd out of 12 teams. pretty good for the underdogs.

ps. my body still hurts. i think we sprinted 5 miles the over the course of the day.

Last Thursday, i had the huge honor of assisting with the groundbreaking of Clifton Reese's dedication and the celebration of the partnership between H.I.S. BridgeBuilders, Prestonwood Baptist Church, and Habitat for Humanity. Click here to see some coverage of the event. Clifton & his beautiful wife Seandra

It was a special day for me because:

1) I work for BridgeBuilders

2)I go to church at Prestonwood

3)My dad's the CEO at Habitat & I got to see him give a speech

4) Clifton & his family are very close to my heart/my favorite people ever

Needless to say it was a joyous occasion, which the city leaders and community got to see how God is truly working through this community in a spectacular & powerful way. My dream and prayer is to see the inner-city of Dallas, be transformed into a community of hope instead of filled with hopelessness and despair. A place where national leaders can really see a holistic view of community restoration and take note of how to properly fight poverty. Thursday was truly a glimpse of how the Church should look like today; a collaboration of believers fighting to spread the Good News of the Gospel and take care of the poor.

As always, let me know if you are interested in volunteering, attending a bible study, or working on a Habitat Home in the weeks to come.

welcome to my new series: new recipe monday.

every monday, the roommate and i are trying out a new recipe. carol likes to try new recipes and i like to eat. it's a pretty good team.

week 1: Chicken, Zucchini, and Prosciutto

i cut the vegetables. i'm a pretty good sous chef.

madison is very interested in what we are cooking.

final product:

recipe notes: you can substitute grilled ham instead of prosciutto (if you're on a budget like us), also don't forget the lemon at the end - i think that was my favorite part.

i rate this recipe 4 outta 5 stars. very flavorful and was good for leftovers too.

today signifies a big milestone in my professional career.

one year of "big-girl" full-time employment. i've never worked full-time 40 hour weeks for one year my entire life.

i'd like to thank the following people/things for making this year of work enjoyable/bearable at times. in no particular order.

1. my mother - i can always call her and just complain, whine, & cry and she ALWAYS listens.

2. shrm website (society for human resources) - you saved my life & made me seem like i knew what i was talking about more than once this last year.

3. lunch outtings - thank you for all those people who go to lunch with me. it's the highlight of my week sometimes.

4. my co-workers - so encouraging and always keep things interesting

5. blogs - endless searching & reading & inspiration.

6. pandora - what would i do without you to keep music in my life? i've listened to more music this year than i ever have. let's just say that i've already listened to 40 hours this month on this computer alone.

7. my friends - for always keeping those weekends interesting and worth surving the workweek!

8. the break room- thank goodness for a full fridge of drinks and candy for those 3 o'clock crashes (although my dentist might disagree). i can always count on you.

this year has been one of the best!

meet my roommate carol. if don't think i've done a proper introduction.

carol & i have been living together in our first "real-world" apartment since feb. of this year. she is a marketing coordinator for a forture 100 company in dfw. i'm not sure if i can even say the company because i'm sure they have rules against that :) i meet carol during our church's weekly bible studies and i was blown away with her knowledge and heart for the word. we get along great & has made this transition into the real world a pleasure! she has crazy curly hair like me, cooks great, and possess the same sense of humor! she's honest, trustworthy, and fun, and she even loves madison (my gremlin dog).

however the point of this post is that her mom, ann, was diagnosed earlier this summer with breast cancer. she has already had her double mastectomy and it went as well as it could be. praise be to God! today, however, is her first day of chemo. as the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, i understand that surgery is usually the lease of your worries but the post-op, recovery, and chemo part is the hardest. please pray that she isn't allergic and does not have a bad reaction to the chemo today. pray for the strength of her family (husband, brent, carol, & nathan). the lacey's are an awesome family! if you'd like updates click {here}. thanks for your prayers!

it's official. i'm going to the amazon with my church. from nov. 20-29th, me and 30 of my closest friends are flying into brazil and then heading down the amazon river for 24 hours on this boat and then serving in different villages.
i've been praying for this trip for almost 1.5 years now and am super excited that it is finally going to happen. i need prayers for a safe trip but also right now as we are leading up to it please pray for open hearts for those going and those we are going to speak with. pray that each member raise the $3000 required to go. pray that i can handle getting a billizon shots. pray that we connect as a group and are clean from any sins or distractions that may prevent us from giving 100%. thanks for your prayers and support.

It's going to be a very busy day with huge project but since i stayed up so late working on my little project last night, i couldn't wait to share! i love porches and since i have a patio (mind you on it's on the first floor and it overlooks a parking lot), i wanted to make it as pretty and inviting as possible.

good stuff. i hate to work out & i can do this. it's fun to turn the sound off and listen to your own music. i think i feel stronger. we'll see how long i can keep it up. buy it on amazon, you won't be disappointed.

Let me set the scene and you can judge the awkwardness on a level from 1-5. 5 being most awkward and 1 being not awkward at all.

Background:
I work in a building with two towers. I work in the south tower on the 7th floor. We have a girl's restroom that is for everyone that works on the 7th floor. I run into this girl about 27 years-old (blonde, really tall, works in shipping company next door) about every day. However, we have never spoken.

Scene:
I'm in the bathroom washing my hands and no one is in there. I open door to leave, and literally almost run into her. I then say (word vomit stikes again), "I feel like we are in here all the time together." She says, "huh?" because she was confused if I was talking to her or the Chinese woman who just walked in behind her. I said "I feel like we are always in the bathroom together" Now I know this isn't going well so I get red in the face. She looks at me, still confused, and goes, "oh really." I might be exaggerating the awkwardness but I don't think I'll be able to look her the eye because if I were here I would be refering to me as the "bathroom girl."

Ahhh just another day in my life.

Anyone else worried about the flu bug going around? I have ALOT of teacher friends and I think they would be on the front lines of the flu war. Is it bad yet? Let me know! I'm on high alert status. I can't get sick with the flu because when I get the flu, I GET THE FLU! I don't get sick very often but the flu is my Achilles heel (if you will). Stay healthy out there! love.

Okay. I might be a one of those girls that jumps on WebMd anytime she doesn't feel good and then self-diagnoses herself with some rare disease or life-threatening issues. However, my mentality to medicine has always been mind over matter. I don't need medicine, I just need sleep, OJ, and some good old fashion vitamins. However, lately I've decided that some thing is wrong with me. I have the focus of a 3 year old, I get mid-afternoon headaches, and I'm exhausted pretty much from 3 p.m. on. That's not right. Right? I'm only 22, not 85. So what's a girl to do when she doesn't know what's wrong? Google it of course!

Well I found an article on "energy zappers" and found five things that might contribute to my lack of energy & how I can fix it. Maybe these will help you too!

1) Have breakfast...even if you don't feel hungry.

2) Drink more water

3) Cut back on TV and computer time after p.m. - This one is important to me because I literally am on my computer until 15 minutes before I go to bed and that's the night I don't fall asleep to my TV!

4) Give your pet her own separate sleeping space - oh wait, you mean to tell me that when I'm crunch in the corner of my queen sized bed because Madison is literally sleeping on top of me it could disrupt my sleep?

5) Get your exercise - I need to do this because I am a lazyyyy girl.

I'll commit to this & see if it makes a difference. Please let me know if you have any picker-ups for those mid-day slumps!
